In the early hours of Saturday, 27th Feb 2010, an earthquake of magnitude 8.8 (the eighth largest ever recorded) struck the coast of Chile, severely affecting six of the nation’s provinces.

While the human casualties have been mercifully low compared to other natural disasters in recent history, the infrastructural damages brought on by the quake pose a significant threat to the welfare and progress of this developing nation.

With so many loved ones out of immediate reach, and many deserving, commendable people caught helpless in this tragedy, it is imperative to remain hopeful.

In the face of such ruin, and our own sense of powerlessness, we resort to this medium in the hope of raising awareness and material relief for those made most vulnerable by this catastrophe.

We hope you will assist us in our efforts by:

• Forwarding this website to everyone that might be interested in helping us raise awareness and ensure that the international media does not forget about the victims of this catastrophe.

• Contacting businesses, organizations or individuals interested in donating or helping us raise funds.

• Assisting us in the development of new initiatives by posting suggestions and feedback to this website, or directly to our email.

• Participating in our photo challenge initiative (see below)

Photo Challenge Initiative:

For those of you who do not have funds to donate, this is a great opportunity to get involved without spending a cent.

Instructions:

You can hold up signs/flags/paint your clothes or even your body to say “8.8 Chile” or just “8.8″. Afterwards, upload them to the online photo album on this website.

We hope to make a big poster/slideshow of all the pictures we can gather and use that to garner media attention and approach companies for donations.

We know that there are many creative people among you, so please put your talents to good use!

Thank you for your generosity and support!
